Institute for Narrative Practice

Because stories shape how we feel, think and act.

Narrative competence is the capacity to notice these stories, and to work with what you find there, deliberately and responsibly.

Why it matters

When the map stops matching the territory

"There are moments when the framework through which you interpret a situation begins to feel unstable."
Certain ways of understanding our experience begin to feel self-evident. They arise from what we have lived through, from expectations placed upon us, from institutional cultures and relational dynamics. Gradually, these narratives gather weight. They become assumptions, belief systems, dominant realities.
This is where narrative competence becomes a strategic capacity. Not to replace one story with another, but to widen the field of meaning so that action becomes more deliberate and grounded.
INP works with organisations, teams and individuals navigating moments where the old frameworks no longer orient. Where something genuinely new needs to become possible.
How we work

Three Ways to Engage

Each pathway is practice-based and grounded in systemic-narrative methodology.
Choose the format that fits your context.
01

Workshops & Deep Dives

Practice-based formats for organisations, teams and professional communities. A space to work with real material, develop narrative skills and leave with something that has actually shifted.
02

Facilitation & Consulting

Systemic-narrative consulting, coaching and process accompaniment in contexts of transition. We engage where ambiguity, tension or competing perspectives call for a different kind of thinking.
03

Narrative Practitioner Journey

Narrative competence as a living practice. Six months that change how you listen, what you notice, and what becomes possible in the rooms you work in.
Areas of work

Focus Areas

Six areas where narrative, systemic and participatory approaches create genuine value for organisations and individuals.
Narrative Identity Work
Supporting individuals navigating transitions in their professional identity: leaders who have outgrown their current story, practitioners developing a grounded sense of their own practice.
Leadership & Team Development
Supporting leaders and teams in navigating transitions, building coherence and learning to work with the stories shaping how their organisation moves forward, or stays stuck.
Narrative Process Facilitation
Designing and facilitating processes that use narrative as a primary tool for collective sensemaking and orientation.
Culture Work
Working with the narratives that shape organisational culture: surfacing assumptions, enabling dialogue and supporting change.
Impact Communication
Helping organisations find language for what their work actually does. Not the elevator pitch, but the living account that holds up under scrutiny and resonates with the people who matter.
Dialogue & Democratic Practice
Working at the level where shared meaning fractures. Creating conditions for genuine dialogue between people whose frameworks for what is real, what is fair and who belongs have moved far apart.
About

Ana-Laura Lemke

Multigraphy. The plurality of stories.
No experience is lived in a single line. Our lives are composed of overlapping narratives: personal, cultural, relational.
My own path has taken me through history, systemic consulting, narrative practice and facilitation. I have accompanied organisations and individuals across Europe and Latin America through transitions where the old story had stopped orienting them.
A single question has run through all of it: whose story gets heard, and what becomes possible when we invite the quiet ones in.

What others say

In Their Own Words

"
Working with Ana-Laura helped our leadership team see the story we had been telling ourselves about the restructuring — and why it was making everything harder than it needed to be.
Dr. Markus Feldmann
Director of Strategy, European Public Sector
"
The Narrative Practitioner Training gave me a framework I now use every week. It was rigorous, practical and unlike anything else I had done in my professional development.
Isabel Carvalho
Organisational Consultant, Lisbon
"
I came in sceptical about narrative work. I left with a completely different understanding of why our change initiative had been stalling — and what to do about it.
Claudia Herrera
Head of People & Culture, Tech NGO
